I loved the movie for many reasons. First, I thought it looked very realistic and I felt like I was there with the soldiers and officers. I could feel their emotion and passion for the soldiers. I liked the emotional aspect of the film, I felt that it was very easy to understand and relate to even though I did not have much knowledge on the topic before I saw the film. I will always remember this movie when I discuss civil rights and when discussing the hardships of people in America. I would recommend this to others who have an interest in civil rights or a good action filled story. Although there was a lot of action in the movie, I believe the emotional part of the film is the part that would draw someone in.
Although there are a lot of people willing to risk their life for a cause, it does not many any of them less of a hero. Dying for a larger cause then yourself is a very heroic act in my eyes and Shaw is a hero. I believe that he changed the world today, even if he only affected a few people. He made a difference in people's minds and showed the world that race does not affect a person and how they act.
The significance of the story is that this event changed history and the current day. If it were not for Shaw and his confidence and willingness to break free from the mold of society, racism in the army could have been much more harsh and it would have taken longer for people to realize their stupid ideas. The significance of the leadership in Fort Wagner is that a black regiment fought and succeed. Although they lost a lot of men, they showed that they can be leaders and they can serve the country.
